Congratulations to all the kids that made it to the Region II tournament. Congratulations to all the winners and place finishers. Congrats to the parents and coaches. Just a forum to comment on what you saw.

And, Let me start off with saying I saw some awesome wrestling. And, unfortunately at times, some awful reffing. Refs were horribly inconsistent in general and I think it is a shame that we ask the kids to elevate their game to such an intense level to compete at regionals, but don't do a better job of making the Refs up their game.

The problem I see is how can we make the ref's up their game? Because I've seen some horrendous calls over this past weekend. The inconstancy with stalling, pins, fleeing the mat and the list goes on. Oh, let not forget the ref's famous line "It's an judgment call." I really do believe some accountabilty needs to come in somewhere.

Do you know where the refs were from, Winchester or N. Va. N. Va all have 3 patches on there shirt. VHSL on the right chest, N. Va patch and a flag on the sleeves. That's how I tell them apart.

Anyways I thought Guthridge beating both Raines and Swartz was rather impressive. 106 final was probably the best actual match.

Just want to thank Kettle Run HS and Faquier for a quality run tourney. Everything was well thought out and well organize. You all should really look at taking over at a higher level. Thank you. Thank You. THANK YOU.

Guthridge wrestled his butt off this weekend, congratulations to him and all the others. There really was some awsome wrestling, and region 2 will be well represented next weekend. I agree about the refs, it was very inconsistent. But I will say this, and I am sure there will be retractions. I knew or have seen most of the refs in that tournament except for a few this weekend. The refs, that I consistently see from around the Northwestern like Terry Boyd, and a few others, were much better than the refs ( especially the two older guys that stuck with each other it seems= horrible!) that were from somewhere farther east. Just IMO. This is a problem that has been going on forever and been discussed forever, really not much you can do about it. Unless there was a governing body , that is going to enforce consistently or overrule calls, it's never going to change.

One of them blew a whole tournament back when I was in high school. Literally. I did not feel as if there was bad officiating this weekend however

Fake over Hulcher was an upset. The kid is a great wrestler, but doubling up on the arm and stalling for 4 minutes? ? Should have been called.

Fake over Hulcher was an upset. The kid is a great wrestler, but doubling up on the arm and stalling for 4 minutes? ? Should have been called. Where I come from thats called a Key lock and also good positioning, Cary Kolat used it quite a bit. Both kids are great wrestlers, but if this was PA, Hulcher would have has two stalling calls between the first and second period for backing out while Fake had the Key lock. Hulcher didn't take any shots until the 3rd anyways.

Please dont get me wrong on Fake. He is awesome. Beat a great kid in Hulcher and is well deserved as the regional champ. I am not a wrestling expert. I dont know the Key Lock. I know two on one, tie up the hands and push forward. Maybe it is frustrating as a fan when it goes on forever. When he hits the throw, it is awesome. But, Hulcher was not stalling. His hands were tied and hard to shoot in that scenario. Congrats to Tyler. Congrats to Hulcher. He wrestled hard against Maddox in the Consi Finals. Maybe I just like action, but the Consi Final match was a lot more exciting than 4 minutes of Key Lock. I must just be too much of a novice.

LOL.... I hope you were watching the same match I was..... Its not Fakes fault that Hulcher didn't take a shot and was being pushed around the mat the first two periods.. against a kid who he dominated two weeks ago.... Hulcher and Fake both great wrestlers. But please don't cry stalling if you have no idea whats going on in the match.

If there were such a thing as an award for wrestler of the tournament, it would have to go to Dylan Wisman. His match vs Budd was one for the ages. And the last seconds pin in the final showed his great determination. Great job there fella!

If MB 220 is dq'd doesn't that mean he's out of the tourney and team loses point and all the points he had earned throughout. If that's the case, why does it show him 2nd? Why did he get a medal? Did the points get taken away, if not will that effect the team placement? Does 5th now get in and others improve seeding by 3 goes to 2, 4 goes to 3, and 5 goes to 4?

DQ can be locking hands/unnecessary roughness/stalling 4 times (1,1,2,DQ). Or it can be an illegal move where the opponent can not continue. Either way it is only a loss, not getting thrown out. Similar to too many false starts in swimming or track.

That makes sense. Wasn't sure what the dq was for.

It wasn't exactly a DQ, it got to the point right before and he was yanked by the coach to avoid the above scenario

I dont like the fact that your coach can bail you out of a situation like that. If you quit then it should be a DQ plain and simple. This is not teaching the kid anything when they know they can quit and take second place to avoid being tossed because they cannot control themselves on the mat. MB guy will face people at states that will give him trouble and what happens when he gets mad this time? What happens when he punches another wrestler or a coach. I was on the bottom row for this match and what he did he should have been tossed period. Just for what he was saying.

Basically what you just said was is let the problem evolve before it gets solved.
DeAndre won't have this problem at states. He has wracked up more penalties, unsportsmanlikes, anything screwy you can think of like that vs Bean more than all the other matches put together in his career. And I dont think that;s a coincidence. I believe Bean is a flopper. He'd do great in the NBA. Did DeAndre deserve to lose? Yes. Will he lose at states? Yes. But anywhere near like that? Don't bet on it.
