Usually I go to the region 2 tournament because I believe it is the toughest tournament around this time of year. Since having kids, reconsideration may be in order. No sportsmanlike conduct shown from the wrestlers, coaches, fans, and even referees all weekend! Who do we blame here? Coaches? Parents? There was nobody I'd want my kid looking up to at any end of the gym!

I wasn't there so can't really comment, but can you give any specifics. If your view is accurate, that is very disappointing.

I totally disagree with the first. Kettle Run H.S. & Fauquier H.S. both did an outstand R2 tournament from my point of view. Yes, there were some unexpected situation that occured namely two, but they handled and kept the tournament moving. So, as being one who was there and observing what took place in the gym, and throughout the day, may be you need to be more specific verse just making such a blanket post.

I'll agree with the original post. I was disappointed with the attitude of some of the kids that lost - tears and disappointment are OK and expected given all their work and devotion to the sport, but attitude and leaving the area w/o observing proper protocols indicates kids that are not well grounded. Also what happened to placing your hand over your heart for our national anthem? I think I observed one of the finalists showing respect for our country and flag.

There was nobody I'd want my kid looking up to at any end of the gym! I have to agree with the earlier posts. This was one of the best run tourneys for R2 that I have been to in a long long time. Kettle Run and Faquier did an outstanding job of keeping things moving and for the most part on time. As far as behavior of the fans and wrestlers, I saw one or two issues, but seeing how I go to tourneys year round, it was better than most as far a sportsmanship goes and I certainly didn't see any problems with any of the coaches. One thing you have to realize that this is the hardest region to get out of and there are a ton of emotions involved, but overall, I have seen it a whole lot worse. in the past years. Hell, I have seen fist fights break out in the stands at dual meets!! This was tame as far as the fans go and a whole lot better than in the past.

i think that 220 is proof of the sportsmanship in that gym booing bean like that

I would only hope that the booing from the fans in Blue was for the ref and not Bean. That kid is a stud. He is as nice as you can get and if it was directed at him, shame on the boys in blue. The call made to DQ was right. Whether the calls before then were good or not, the Blue fans cannot argue with the fnal call. The outcome of the match was the only shame because I am sure Bean would like to have proved it on the mat, but that was not his choice.

All I can really say is thats a very tough 4 points to give up considering how hard Bean is to score on. I think other than Cburg kid, those were the first 2 offensive points I've seen him give all year. Johnson was wrestling great and picked up his first win in many tries against Thompson earlier in the day. I think I'd of taken any finish over that one.

Not being a fan of any particular team. i thought Johnson deserved a point to be awarded to Bean on that display, however, the slam call was not in accordance with what is in the rule book and probably led to some frustration on Johnsons part because Bean is next to impossible to score on. I wanted the match to be determined on the mat. I agree that Bean is a great kid but wanted to see them finish it on the mat and not let the ref be the centerpiece of the conversation. I can honestly tell you sitting near that section that fans weren't booing Bean, they were booing the decision by the ref. He had plenty of discretion and chose to make the mat about himself and not the wrestlers

Right. Also the stall calls, though he was, got thrown up quicker than anyone else that night. And in the district finals last year(not this year) he lost by one point, earlier in the match a questionable roughness call going out of bounds giving Bean one. (I believed it was simply wrestling to the edge of the mat). Just a long building history with them
Regardless, the right action was made towards Johnsons decisions. I believe they are the 3rd and 4th best kids in the state, maybe we'll get one more before they go?
