Wednesday night will feature the first JD Quad of the season at Monticello High School. WA, Mon,Pow,and Louisa will be competing (Fluvanna vs. Cville is being rescheduled). Unfortunately, these teams all have their strongest wrestlers at different weights so the battles may come from the lesser known guys on the teams. 106 Jeffrey Sisk (Lou) should rule here 112 Andrew Dickerson (WA) may get pushed from the Pow kid 120??? 126??? 132??? 138 Ryan Brown (Mon) is really strong at this weight 145 Caleb Rider (WA) has really improved and should be the fav unless Gavin goes at this weight. 152 Myciah Fitzwater (WA) and Tingen Gavin (Lou) would be an exciting match as both go for a lot of big moves. The Pow kid could surprise them. 160 We will have to see if Joe Gilbert (mon) and compete with Pow's new transfer Canin Ritz. James Cusick (Lou) may surprise someone. 170 Jake Tomlinson (Pow) looks really dominate at this weight. 182 Thomas Smith (Pow) dominates here but Seay (Lou) vs. Crawley (WA) could be a battle 195 220 Dan Alonzo (Mon) should win out HWT

Weird night over at Monticello. The Monticello team was depleted for some reason and caused long rest periods between team so it was decided that Mon-WAHS and Lou-Pow would be wrestled at a later date. I got there late but here are some highlights:
Lousia is back. They are solid throughout their lineup and have some good backups. Gavin Tingen (Lou) pinned Myciah Fitzwater (WA) which was a small surprise to me. The 152 from Pow also beat Fitzwater. Cusick at 160 looked really good. He is a tall lanky wrestler much like his older brother. I didn't get to see the Ritz kid from Powhatan wrestle since out for the meet. Tomlinson and Smith from Powhatan are ripped. They have each other pushing them in the room they will be tough for anyone in the post season. Danny Alonzo from Monticello looks real solid at 220 The Hwt from Pow impressed me. He is short and small for a hwt but is real aggressive (a rare trait for HS hwt's).

I AGREE WITH ALOT OF THE PICKS. WATCH FOR POW. KID AT 52 I PICK HIM TO WIN DISTRICTS. DONT FORGET ABOUT J.ZIMMERMAN HE WILL WIN IT AT EITHER 120 OR 126 WHICH EVER HE CHOOSES.
THE SAD THING IS THAT THE JEFFERSON DISTRICT SUFFERS FROM EXTREME LACK OF COACHING................POW. CLEARLY CARES ABOUT THE PROGRAM.
WESTERN COACHING STAFF...I LIKE THE ENERGY

JD watcher, Interesting how you say that there is an "extreme lack of coaching" in the JD and Powhatan coaches are the only ones that care (I know, not a direct quote, but it was implied), but when there were three vacancies this year did you apply to fill one? Why do you think the coaches are running the programs if they don't care? Money? 99% of coaches make $3,000 for the whole year (at most) as a stipend. Fame? Wrestling is barely covered in local papers and not on TV at all. Varsity wrestling is a 6 day week gig, with Saturdays completely taken away. Most coaches literally never see the light of day unless it is on Sunday. Why would some one put in 12 hour days six days a week if he didn't care?
In a majority of programs around the state the person running the program is the only one that would do it. For every Forge, New Kent, Christiansburg, or Manassas Park there are 3 programs barely hanging on.
Half of the teams in the JD are under new coaches this year. It takes time to build a true program. It doesn't happen overnight. What have you done to help? Do you volunteer with a team? Do run a youth program? Have you written your local principal, AD, or school board asking them to find a coach that "cares"? Have you written to college coaches asking if they have any seniors with education degrees that are looking to teach and coach?

Amen to that!! Many of these young men and women are not sure one year to the next IF there will even BE a wrestling team. I can say in my five years of High School Wrestling that we have had 4 Coaches. ALL of them were dedicated but lacked the support that was needed from the school and parents. It's very easy to say what is wrong and complain, yet much more responsible and logical to see how YOU can help and make a difference.

JD Guest, It appears to me that you have definitly coached before. Not many understand the situation as well. If you want a better system, make it happen, don't complain about it.

JUST SAYIN THAT ITS HARD TO WATCH 1 TEAM IN THE JD PROGRESSIVLY GET WORSE BECAUSE OF LACK OF COACHING. AS FAR AS DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT , EVERYONE KNOWS THAT SO MANY POLITICS ARE INVOLVED IN SCHOOL SPORTS. LETS JUST HOPE THAT NO MATTER HOW OBLIVIOUS ALOT OF SCHOOLS ARE ABOUT WHAT IT TAKES TO MAKE A GOOD WRESTLING PROGRAM , LETS HOPE THEY SEE THRU THIS 1 SCHOOLS COACHING SITUATION AND CUT HIS ASS LOOSE! FOR THE RECORD IF YOUR TEAM WINS OR LOSES YOUR COACH SHOULD GO THRU THE LINE AND SHAKE THE OTHER TEAMS HAND , NOT DO IT JUST BECAUSE HIS SCHOOLS A.D. IS WATCHING. ALSO DONT GET THE KIDS IN A HUDDLE AFTER A LOSS AND BASH THEM. "YOU JUST GOT YOUR F*****N ASS KIDED , NOT GET OUT OF MY FACE" SO IF YOU DONT LIKE WHAT WAS SAID IN MY EARLIER STATEMENT IM SORRY , BUT MOST OF YOU DONT KNOW THE WHOLE SITUATION. BY THE WAY I TRIED TO HELP AND THAT CURRENT COACH DIDNT WANT HELP , MAYBE A FEAR THAT HE WOULD BE EXPOSED WHEN IT COME TO TEACHING TECHNIQUE

1. Please turn off your caps lock unless you mean to yell, in which case, please stop yelling.
2. If you only meant to bash 1 team you should have done so in the first place, not made the umbrella statement you did.
3. I'm sorry your efforts were rebuffed at the high school level. Did you try to help the middle school program? Start a Parks and Rec youth club, or a USA club? The foundation must be laid. Look at New Kent and Eastern View. They turned into the teams they did because their coaches put time and effort into a great youth program. Orange is way up this year, reaping the rewards of a strong youth coach from a few years back. This could be you. Start the club, teach the little ones to wrestle, then in 5-6 years watch with pride as they achieve their dreams.

I usually just read the post , but I felt like this hit a little close to home. I know the school your talking about , I think. I have 2 boyz that attend that school one at 6 and one at 20. I seen the coach refuse to shake the other teams hand during the first tournament of the season against a district foe, which I didn't understand the reason for that , after all everyone loses , but you still have to be professional. My kidz have been wrestling for several years now , I dont agree with alot of stuff that goes on and has been going on inside and outside the wrestling room , but you stand back watch and wait to see how things get handled. If all else fails you have to do what is best for your children , not the team , not the school but the best for your child.

I agree with the JD guest. My kidz attend CWC (cavalier wrestling club) and IMPACT (powhattan) , that is just 2 great clubs that my kidz attend. If you don't like the way your kidz are being coached , or you think that they are not being pushed in the wrestling room , it's your job as a parent to get them the training they need. Hope this helps a little.

Haha, someone on here used 3 different user names but it's all coming from the same IP address. That could be part of the problem. Vent to the coach or the school board. Tell the coach he's not good. Petition, write letters, call your AD. Posting as a million names on here isn't gonna help. Remove the bum coaches who are not willing to put in the time
