Just got home from work, and boy I am happy that my forum is finally active for once!
Now usually I would block posting at this point, but I will keep it open if we can sway back to the original point of discussion.
BTW.. ZIMDAD hater isn't coming out of the Fluvanna or Powhatan area... of even Jefferson District period..

I will comment without some of the vitriol in the previous posts. I thought the R2 tournament was very well run by John Champe. The officiating was not at the level you would expect for a normal high school dual let alone a Regional event. Back points were not given when they should have been (e.g., Sun), no consistency on TD vs scramble (hard one sometimes), out of bounds, etc. This really needs to improve. The Faquier kid in semi against Hulcher should have probably picked up a penalty point and sportsmanship was acutely absent in several glaring instances.
I thought the comments about Zimmerman was interesting. Don't know him from Adam but he is a good wrestler. Was he stalling? Yeah, and in earlier matches too, though not sure about the stalling call while he was on top. If it had been called earlier he wouldnt have done it later on. He worked his matches. I like to see aggressive wrestling. Refs need to get together on the important stuff (stalling, control, out of bounds) so at least the tourney is called consistently. Probably not possible :-)
Who has as a screen name a kid's name and HATER? really?

And now my question remains, what can we as fans do to prevent this from happening in the future? Is there even an answer to this?

I hate to see kids slammed on here. They only do what they are allowed to do by the officials and how they are coached. Certain unnamed teams love to work the edge of the mat and dive out whenever trouble is in the air. Some call it smart wrestling. Some call it fleeing the mat. When a kid is obviously stalling from the beginning of the 3rd period, it doesn't do any good to call stalling with 16 seconds left in a match.
It also doesn't help that the refs allowed stalling to go on all day long and then when finals start, the change the way they call stalling. There should be consistency. Riding parallel and not improving your position on top is stalling in my book. Throwing in legs and making a half effort to transition back and forth from arm to arm is not improving your position in my book. Then again laying on your belly with your arms straight out in front of you is not improving your position from the bottom. Kids were standing up and then not being returned to the mat for extended periods of time without calls. Kids on top were wrapping up around the ankles and legs and not working up the body for extended periods of time all day long and no stalling calls.
Take downs at the edge were called very inconsistently and I saw more than one take down awarded with little to no control.
How do we prevent this from happening? You have got me. The ref that blew the call in the Santmyers overtime match at 152 went over to the middle of the mats, sat in his chair and laughed. And, oh, by the way, he continued to ref matches after this. That was not blowing a tough call or missing a call, that is basic knowledge of the rules. Anyone wearing a zebra suit and out there on that mat as a paid referee should know you allow the match to continue if in a pinning combination after the take down in OT. Never should have been reffing to start with, but definately should not have been allowed to continue. If you had watched during the day, he was part of several extremely poor calls on the day.
The question is, who is their boss???

I know some of the names mentioned...These kids are good kids very dedicated to this sport, and deserve more respect then they are getting...
The administrator of this site should be ashamed for not removing this thread about "bad calls"...I daresay if your kids were the ones mentioned, the post would be gone by now. To the kids being bashed on this site by, "no names and haters",,, you must be doing something right because they sound very envious that you are where you are and they are not or never have been...
Next week if you are at Salem...you will see some "subjective" calls and it won't be in favor of the schools in REG 1, 2 or 3...

REG3FAN, understand your point and to some degree agree with you that we need to careful how things are presented on here, but it is hard to discuss these issues without specifics. As mentioned in here, "How do we fix it?" It is very frustrating year to year to hear the same complaints and nothing ever seems to change. The stands at R2 were full of people talking about the issues spelled out on here. A lot of the discussions I overheard (or even participated in) were brought up on here, so I really dont think these guys are too far off base. I think everyone just wants to vent when you see that the level of wrestling has greatly improved over the years. The level of coaching has improved over the years. In general, the level of sportsmanship has improved over the years (I saw very little of the old school poor sportsmanship between the wrestlers). But, the level of officiating does not improve. I know being a ref is difficult, but there were some really "bad calls" and anyone that knows wrestling can see it.
You are likely very right about Salem. The southwest control of states continues and it will be evident in some of the matches, but again, I think the question on most of our minds is "How do we fix it?"

My son worked with Justin in the offseason a couple years ago. I know for a fact that Justin is not lazy! He has a tremendous work ethic! I have personally watched him due extra conditioning after grueling practices. He has a big heart! He should be praised for wrestling with a knee injury. That is very hard task!

You want to fix the problem?
Volunteer yourself and become a certified referee that is better than they are. Without this you will see number of refs and the quality go down due to harsh criticism whether deserved or not. The average age of the referees at the tournament were approximately 50 years old, we as a sport need to refresh our supply of officials.
Its put up or shut up time......become part of the solution we can all be proud of.
I'll cheer for your decisions when YOU make the call.

Region 3 fan, let me settle all of the points you have brought up here with me and how I should be ashamed I am much closer to these kids age than yours. I can tell you, Zimmerman probably wouldn't pay 2 cents to see what we have to say. He is tough enough to come either 2nd or 3rd next week (depending on where Ozias sits) in the state of Virginia. That takes a lot of overall work, lazy time or no lazy times. You think someone who does all of that cares that someone called him lazy, or a wimp, or whatever? Nope. Remember this kid could be in the service in 4 short months for all we know. He is a young adult, stop acting like he wears diapers. If it were my own kid, well, couldn't tell ya, don't have any. People used to go crazy on my little brother though when they found he he was related to me. Left all of them up though, didn't delete a thing. I suppose in comparison, you're wrong again. I'm not trying to argue, but I just haven't seen anything out of bounds yet. If you don't like it, I also posted this on VA Wrestling, a site I do not run. Have fun getting that to load though
