The OCHS wrestlers had a full house yesterday as the season started. 35 boys had signed up for the team and from the look of the wrestling room almost all of them showed up for practice. Seasoned veterans Nave, Almond, Ryder, Raferty, Benner and newcomer Rudnick have set the bar high with their ongoing conditioning thru the summer months. Other returning veterans filling out the line up are P. Coleman, J. Coleman, Pierce, White, and Morris. Excitment is high with expectations of a great season and with only 2 seniors on the roster this year the team will be strong for several more years.

What are your projections for the starting line up?
Any weights up for grabs?

We have two newcomers going for the 103 spot and both wrestled middle school. Coleman, P. looking to go 112 - 119 up in the air - 125 to 152 still being sorted out - each spot has at least two+ in the weigh class - best wrestler will win spot - looking for the seasoned veterans to win the spots but what weigh is the question - Nave going 171 - White going 189 - 215 and 285 up for grabs

Wow. If Coleman goes 119 that would make that weight class the toughest in the JD with Scharf (Lo), Biesecker (WM), Diggs (M), and Goodbar (WA).

Coleman, P. will probably wrestle 119 for the first couple of meets then drop down to 112 for remainder of season. Problem is we have JD matches on Dec. 8 with Louisa and W. Monroe. Don't know if weight classes will be decided by then.

Yeah, Charlottesville, Monticello and William Monroe all have a distrct match on Dec. 1. It may hurt Monticello more if the guys that play football are out another week. I doubt that many guys will be at there projected weight by then. It is going to make seeding tough at the JD tourney.

I didn't get a chance to make it to Orange on Saturday, but the results from the Culpeper paper make it seem like Orange was dominant???
The Hornets defeated Courtland 64-15, Dominion 71-6, Harrisonburg 65-6, King George 71-10 and Madison County 70-0
It's good to see a local team standing out from the crowd.

It is no wonder that the OC wrestlers won convincingly across the board... Coach Artusio and Coach Glover worked in the Rm. all of the off season and these boys showed up everyweek. They are only going to get better from here. Thanks to Coach Artusio and Glover... and congratulations to all of the OCWrestlers!

It was a good warm up weekend. I told them to remember last year at regionals. Prepare for that. Our district is weak and the region is super strong.
