Just wanted encourage all of you coaches to get involved and contact your AD s with your opinion on the scheduled 8 man states that the VHSL has for the new 6A system starting 2013-14. This would dilute the State tournament to have an 8 man tournament. We need to have an 16 man tournament like we always have had. The 8 man bracket will leave some wrestlers out who otherwise would advance a long way in the State Tournament, not counting the fans it would eliminate.

totally agree. we need 16 man state brackets. the best example I can think of was in AA last year at 138. Tyler Budd and Dylan Wisman were matched up the the Region 2 semis. They were clearly the best 2 in the region, just the way the brackets fell. Freshman Dylan Wisman had lost to Senior Tyler Budd at the Millbrook tournament during the regular season, but won a very tough fought match in the regional semis that went down to the final seconds of the match. Dylan went on to take 2nd place at the state tournament and Tyler placed fourth (and I believe was a 4 time state place winner). So both of them clealry deserved to be in the state tournament. Under the new system a senior who was a three time state place winner would not have had the opportunity to participate in the state tournament his senior year.....even though he was in the top 4....what a shame that would have been. Turn the tables, if Wisman would have lost in the regional semis he would not have went to states and would not have been a state runner-up as a Freshman (footnote AJ Pittas was 2nd in Region 2 and finished 6th at states - so there were 3 wrestlers from Region 2 in the top 6 in states at 138 - under the new system one of those kids would not have had a chance to place at states - so the best kids in the state would not have have a chance to place). I am sure there are other weight classes last year that could be used as examples for the VHSL. The 6 class system is not good for VA wrestling. But the 8 man state brackets will be the DEATH of VA restling. You need to get your AD's and Principals on board with the 16 man bracket proposal.
